Mike Tyson Vows To Continue Exhibitions: I’ll Be Better This Time

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 54-years-old, intends to move forward with his plan to have continue with exhibition fights in 2021.

Tyson, who retired from the sport after getting stopped by Kevin McBride in 2005, was back in the ring in November, when he fought to a draw in an eight round exhibition bout with four division world champion Roy Jones.

The exhibition bout was carried on pay-per-view – and did far better than anyone had expected, with over 1.5 million purchases.

During a recent interview, Tyson discussed his goal of fighting again in the coming months.

“Yeah, absolutely. It’ll be better this time,” Tyson told Patrick Mouratoglou.

“It was interesting. I felt really good, I felt confident. I felt that I could do it again.”

Tyson has received a lot of inquiries from fighters who want to join his Legends Only League.

“We started Legends Only League and it’s really interesting. Once I announced that I was going to do my exhibition, everybody, all these other athletes all wanted to get involved in some way. Our first show was a record breaker. Now everybody’s interested in being involved with our whole organization,” Tyson said.

One of the possible opponents is four time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, who holds two wins over Tyson.

In the aftermath of Tyson’s recent return, Holyfield was pushing hard for a third fight to happen this year.

“This is the fight that must happen for both our legacies. Saturday night you said you were ready to fight me, so sign the contract and get in the ring, Tyson. The world is waiting and it’s on you now. I’m ready,” Holyfield said.

“My side tried to make the fight happen and we got nothing but excuses. Now I can see why he wanted a tune-up fight before thinking about fighting me. Roy Jones was a good local opponent for Mike but a fight with me would be a global event and the only fight that anyone wants to see is a fight between us. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn’t make it happen.”
