Ryan Garcia was disappointed at losing out on the Jorge Linares fight for July 4, but now he’s set his sights on facing Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. That’s the guy that unbeaten Garcia (20-0, 17 KOs) wishes to take on next if possible.
That’s not a fight that Golden Boy Promotions will probably make for Ryan when he returns to the ring in August or September. The unbeaten lightweight contender King Ryan will be back in action in the summer, and he would like to fight a “Credible” opponent and not a power puff guy.
Golden Boy picks out Ryan’s fights for him, and that puts him in a position where he may not get the type f opponent that he wants. Recently, Ryan and Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya had a brief heated exchange on Twitter after Ryan had turned down an offer to fight on July 4.
It wasn’t a big enough offer to suit Ryan, so Golden Boy canceled the date. De La Hoya then let his followers know on his Twitter account that Ryan Garcia had turned down his offer. That move by De La Hoya gave the appearance that he was trying to marginalize Ryan.
